paliojen_black Exciting and beautiful progressive metal, a real tour de force! A lot of focus on emotional impact as well as serious chops. Favorite track: The Mountain.

rawbert413 When I saw the description of "prog rock and metal" I was intrigued, but I didn't expect something this good. Even listening to just the two tracks available before the full release, I'm reminded incredibly strongly of classic Rush, from the Permanent Waves era, and that's the strongest compliment I can give to prog rock! But these tracks add something more, some minor yet forceful difference, and I can't recommend The Mountain strongly enough! Favorite track: The Mountain.

about

This album is a lot of things to me. I've been a musician for (as of writing this) 17 years. In that time, I have always wanted to round my skills out enough to facilitate any ideas that come to my head without the need for outside input. While the pandemic has made life much less accessible for me, I've used that time in isolation to hone in on the skills required to do so. This has been quite an enriching, but arduous process. Everything that's usually handled by a large group of people (composition, instrumentation, tracking, mixing, mastering, graphic design, etc) is all being done by me. And because of my own personal hang ups, this makes the entire process all the more difficult.

That's where the name for the album comes from, and that's what the album is about. Two years ago, I didn't know anything about music theory or song composition outside of what I gleaned from listening to other people's works. I worked almost every day in pandemic isolation trying to learn how to get my ideas out of my head and into mine and other people's ears. It's been like climbing a mountain. And like climbing a mountain, there are many things that can happen between staring at the mountaintop from the base of it, and gazing down from the summit.

The process has been difficult, but it has been immensely gratifying. I could go on and on about what each part of it means to me, but I'd rather let the music speak for itself. I hope you enjoy. :)
